Last week, the company added a new hands-free voice command capability to the Alexa app and now, Amazon is planning to bring some new features to the app aiming to further improve the capabilities of the app. More precisely, Alexa app on Android smartphones will be able to search, view information and access functionalities within any app and even launch an app. Amazon is calling the new feature Alexa for Apps and the feature is now available for Alexa app in preview form. This means the company is working closely with developers to bring these features to the app and how they would like to implement it. With the new features, Amazon will make things more interactive for users. For example, if a user asks its Echo device to open Twitter or Facebook app and search for a particular term, then instead of Echo reading the entire search result aloud will actually open up the particular app on the smartphone and display the search result with the help of Alex companion app. Users can also use their voice command to trigger the camera app and start recording a hands-free video as well. Another good example could be seeing the entire food menu while ordering the food using Alexa or seeing all the cab prices at once on the screen while booking a cab using Uber. The feature will be rolled out as an app update for both Android and iOS and is expected to launch in the coming months. For now, only developers can access the Alexa for Apps in case they are looking to test these features and implement them into their apps and services.
