apple iphone 12: Future iPhones may get their most important parts from Samsung
Back in May, it was reported that Samsung is going to be supplying the display panels to three out of four iPhones that are expected to be launched in second half of 2020 and now, if the last report by The Elec is to be believed, the South Korean tech giant is also going to be an important supplier of camera parts as well. As per the report, Samsung “will likely supply lenses for already released iPhone models first rather than the new iPhone 12.” Citing people who are familiar with the matter, the report by The Elec claims that this is set to happen in the beginning of the second half of 2020, although no confirmed month has been stated. This report also states that Apple tipster Ming-Chi Kuo has claimed that Samsung will begin supplying to Apple in the second half of 2020 or first half of 2021, including the 6P lens for the iPhone 12 series and 5 to 7P lens next year as well as supply telephoto lens and voice coil motors (VCM) for Apple in 2022. As per the report, the ball type design for the VCM used in folded zoom was technologically superior to the previous spring type VCM. As mentioned, Samsung is already being touted to be the primary supplier of displays to the Cupertino-based tech giant. As per a previous report by Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC), out of the four iPhones — iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Max, iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max — three of them with the exception of the iPhone 12 Max are likely to house a display supplied by Samsung. That report also alleged that there is a 6-week delay in the panel production, which implied that rather than starting in the beginning of June, it is likely to get delayed to July-end, adding to the reasons why we may see a delay in the launch of the iPhone 12 series.
