Social networking giant Facebook is working on integrating Facebook and WhatsApp, according to a report by WABetaInfo. The report cites mobile developer and tipster Alessandro Paluzzi who has claimed that such an integration is already happening for Facebook and the photo-sharing app it owns, which is Instagram. The report claims that in the future, there might be a possibility for users to be able to talk to users who have a “different Facebook app, in this case between two users having WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger.” The report even provides a screenshot of references that were found in some tables in a local database, in order to manage messages and services with other WhatsApp users. “Following the references listed in this image, Facebook can understand if a WhatsApp contact is blocked, sounds of push notifications, the details of a chat (that includes particular information like the phone number of the contact, a message counter, if the chat is archived..) but not its content, members of a specific group and profile pictures of the contact,” the report adds. At this point, there is no clarity if users will have the option to disable it. Also, since this feature is right now under development only, there is a possibility that there may be changes to this before it is actually developed. Another way Facebook recently announced that it is creating a link between its main app and WhatsApp is through Messenger Rooms — its private video conferencing tool. This was confirmed by Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg earlier this year when in his In his announcement post he said, “Rooms have no time limits, can host up to 50 people, and you can create them for free across Messenger, Facebook, and soon Instagram and WhatsApp as well.”
