WhatsApp has been known to be working on multi-device support for the platform for quite some time now as suggested by various leaks. As part of the development on this front, WABetaInfo — the platform that tracks the changes and upcoming features on the instant messaging app — has suggested that this feature will allow WhatsApp users to link up to 4 devices. Not only that, but the app will also roll out a dedicated section named ‘Linked Devices’ in the app that will show all the devices that are being used for that WhatsApp account. This new section will appear in the menu that can be accessed by tapping on the three-dot icon along with other options such as Settings, New group, New broadcast, Starred messages, as per the screenshot posted by WABetaInfo. The section will not only give the users an option to link a new device but also show all the already linked devices with the temp stamp that device was last active to use the WhatsApp account. Apart from this, WhatsApp is also said to be working on improving the Advanced Search Mode for the Android app and will soon roll out a new UI for the feature, claims WABetaInfo. These soon-to-be rolled out changes were discovered by WABetaInfo in the Android beta version of WhatsApp, however since they are since under development, they haven’t been rolled out to the beta users yet. Last month, WABetaInfo claimed that WhatsApp will require Wi-Fi to sync the data across various devices. In a previous Android beta version, v2.20.143, of the Facebook-owned app, it was revealed that on the primary registration screen, the app asks users to switch to Wi-Fi as “without Wi-Fi, logging in may be slow, and may use a large amount of your data plan.”
